| Island in the Housatonic River: by Carl Hetherington. The Housatonic River flows slowly in August affording wonderful reflections of the scenes along its banks. In this painting, the beautifully lit tree and fringe of tall pink flowers sit on an island just before the river bends south at Route 183 toward the old mill town of Housatonic several miles down river. The large tree is very old and one wonders how much longer it will be able to stay rooted to the island before spring runoff and the persistent erosion by the river win out as they always do. |
